How to use the tonometer?

  1. For the first time, you must measure the pressure on both hands.
  2. Spend measurement while comfortably, leaning back in a warm premise; hand should rest on the table.
  3. Measurement of blood pressure can be lying and standing, but the hand on which the measurement is made must be at heart level. The muscles of the hands should be relaxed.
  4. Contraindicated during measurement to talk or move.
  5. Clothing should not squeeze hand.
  6. Cuff pressure cuff is placed on the shoulder at heart level, the bottom edge should rise to 2 cm above the elbow fold.
  7. Within one hour before the measurement is not worth drinking coffee or strong tea.
  8. Do not smoke during the 30 minutes before measuring your blood pressure.
  9. Blood pressure is measured in a peaceful state after 5-minute rest. If measurement procedure preceded the physical or emotional stress, increase the period of rest before measuring up to 15 minutes.
  10. Cuff size must match the size of the hands: rubber swelling part of the cuff should cover at least 80% of the circumference of the arm; for adults apply the cuff width 12-13 cm and length 30-35 cm (medium size).
  11. When using unsuitable in size numerals cuff blood pressure or raised (if the cuff is small) or underestimated (if the cuff is great).
  12. Full people should use large size cuff, which can be purchased at the pharmacy or specialty store.
  13. To obtain accurate data on the level of blood pressure should perform at least two dimensions. The interval between measurements should be from 1 minute.
  14. If the two readings differ by more than the tonometer 5 mm. m.c., you must measure the pressure again.
  15. For the ultimate (registered) value is accepted, the average of the last two measurements.
  16. When the difference in blood pressure equal to or greater than 10 mm. m.c., subsequent measurements should be carried out on the arm with a lot of pressure.
